Competitor monitoring for home and furniture brands

Home and furniture shoppers take their time, compare carefully and care about delivery as much as price, while the category runs on holiday-weekend sales. Here is how that competition works, with sources, and what to watch about your competitors.

How home & furniture brands compete

Sales run on holiday weekends

For mattresses, Consumer Reports calls Presidents Day weekend the best opportunity in February to find a deal, with holiday sales besting the sales brands offer regularly by 5-10 percent, and notes that the next major mattress sale event doesn't come around until Memorial Day.

When sales come round this often, the size of a "sale" says little on its own. The useful comparison is a competitor's price today against its own price history, and its holiday-weekend offer against last year's.

The year is uneven

US Census Bureau data for furniture and home furnishings stores, not seasonally adjusted and published through FRED, show sales of $9,255 million in January 2024 against $11,800 million in December 2024, and $9,826 million in January 2025 against $11,175 million in December 2025. The series covers physical stores, not online sellers, but it shows the same pattern of a strong year end and a slow start.

Delivery and returns decide the sale

The Baymard Institute's 2026 study of 1,598 US online shoppers found delivery is not just a logistical concern but a deciding factor for furniture and home decor shoppers, that purchases are difficult to return once delivered and assembled, and that written dimensions (49%) and dimension images (42%) were the most essential content for confidence in fit.

That makes competitors' delivery promises, delivery fees and free shipping thresholds part of the price comparison. In the US, the FTC's Mail, Internet or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule requires a reasonable basis for any shipping time a seller states and, if it states none, a reasonable basis for believing it can ship within 30 days.

New collections follow the trade calendar

The High Point Market in North Carolina, which the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources describes as billed as the largest home furnishing trade show in the world, runs each April and October; its organizer lists the 2027 markets as April 10-14 and October 23-27. For competitors that present at trade events like it, new ranges tend to follow that calendar, which makes their launches easier to anticipate.

How RivalSweeper helps

What the product does today, as listed on our product facts page. It reports and alerts; it does not reprice your products.

  • Checks each competitor site every day: a newly added competitor gets its first data within 24 hours, and a change is known within 48 hours. Daily monitoring, not real-time.
  • Keeps competitors' prices, discounts and dated price history, so you can check a holiday-weekend sale against their own recent prices.
  • Tracks shipping and payment options, and promotions and coupon codes.
  • Records new, removed and updated products and new categories.
  • Tracks homepage banners and marketing messages, the newsletters competitors send, and when, and their Meta and Google ads activity.
  • Tracks multi-market stores per market and currency, with their shipping countries, currencies and languages, and converts price comparisons across stores to your currency.
  • No script, plugin or store integration: you add competitor domains and RivalSweeper reads their public websites, whatever platform they run on.
